One of the first things I request when taking on a new client is to get access to their website’s content management system (CMS) or to get access to their FTP drive, i.e. their website’s server. You would think that this is not a big ask, but I have more and more clients who seem to struggle with this as their web developers seem to hold them over a barrel.
Since setting up Eye for Marketing I have noticed that a lot of web developers will either (i) give you, the client, restricted access to the CMS – which is usually deliberate… this will either be because you aren’t overly technical and it’ll avoid any confusions/problems in the future, OR (ii) they give you restricted access so in future when you want to make any changes yourself, you’ll need to go to them for assistance.
Do you feel trapped?
Do you feel like you are restricted by your website? Do you feel like your web knockoff rolex yacht master m126621 0002 rolex calibre 2836 2813 mens automatic 15mm developer or the web agency who you work with aren’t being overly helpful? Do you feel like they are charging you a lot of money for simple changes such as uploading an image? Are they failing to meet your expectations?
The thing I’ve noticed the most, is that web developers despise an SEO agency coming on board as they know that we will have certain requests to enable us to do our jobs properly.. in theory this is not a problem – or it shouldn’t be – but often us SEO Consultants find that the website was developed without the right SEO tools in place and when we challenge this, it can sometimes turn a moll hole into a mountain.
So, what is the solution?
